On July 8, 2025, a 16-year-old adolescent carried out a knife attack at the Escola Municipal Maria Nascimento Giacomazzi in Estação, a municipality in the northern region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. During the incident, a nine-year-old girl was fatally stabbed, and three others were injured, including two children and a 34-year-old teacher. The attacker, who had a known history of psychological treatment, was subdued by local residents and subsequently apprehended by the police. Following the attack, the municipal government suspended classes across all schools in Estação. One of the injured children suffered a brain injury and underwent surgery. The case is under investigation by local authorities.
