The 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed opened in West Sussex on Thursday, drawing manufacturers and Formula 1 teams eager to showcase both heritage machinery and future technology. Lotus used the event to unveil the Theory 1, an all-electric concept designed to signal the styling and technical direction of its next production models. The mid-engined-style coupé delivers 1,000 horsepower to all four wheels from a 70 kWh battery, weighs 1,600 kilograms and is claimed to reach 320 km/h. “Theory 1 represents the next chapter for Lotus,” Vice President of Design Ben Payne said, adding that the car builds on the company’s 77-year history while pushing the boundaries of high-performance EVs. A 1+2 seating layout and adaptive “LOTUSWEAR” cabin materials provide haptic feedback to the driver. The festival’s motorsport lineup also features Haas F1 Team’s first appearance at Goodwood and demonstration runs of Williams Racing’s championship-winning FW14B. Organisers are broadcasting the hill-climb and related events live on YouTube throughout the four-day programme.
