Rivian Automotive has opened orders for quad-motor versions of its R1S sport-utility vehicle and R1T pickup, the most powerful variants yet of the company’s flagship electric models. The 2026-model-year Launch Editions start at about $126,000 for the R1S and $120,000 for the R1T and pair one motor at each wheel to deliver a combined 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 pound-feet of torque. Rivian says the configuration propels the vehicles from zero to 60 miles per hour in roughly 2.5 seconds and provides an estimated 325-to-374-mile driving range, rising to about 400 miles in a power-saving Conserve mode. Beyond raw output, the second-generation platform integrates new software features, headlined by “Kick Turn,” which modulates wheel torque to let the vehicle pivot tightly on dirt trails at speeds up to 20 miles per hour—an off-road alternative to the firm’s earlier, unreleased “Tank Turn.” An in-cabin RAD Tuner interface also lets drivers fine-tune suspension damping, torque balance and other dynamics, while a “Launch Cam” records acceleration runs automatically. Hardware updates include an oil-cooled motor design and a standard North American Charging Standard port, giving owners direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network; Rivian ships a complimentary CCS adapter for other fast-charging stations. Customer deliveries of the quad-motor R1S and R1T are slated to begin in the coming weeks, ahead of the company’s planned, lower-priced R2 lineup in 2026.
Come for the kick turn, spinning in place without even moving the steering wheel, and stay for the four motors with their combined 1,025 horsepower and 1,198 pound-feet of torque. @kirstenkorosec breaks down Rivian's new 2026 Quad-Motor truck and SUV with hands-on impressions: https://t.co/fMpuAX3hHb
