Kenneth Colley, the British character actor best known for portraying Imperial officer Admiral Piett in the original “Star Wars” trilogy, has died at his home in Ashford, Kent. He was 87. Colley contracted Covid-19 while in hospital for an arm injury sustained in a fall; the infection developed into pneumonia, his agent Julian Owen said in a statement confirming the death, which occurred on Monday, June 30. In a career spanning more than six decades and over 150 screen credits, Colley ranged from playing Jesus in “Monty Python’s Life of Brian” to roles in Clint Eastwood’s “Firefox,” television series such as “Peaky Blinders” and Shakespeare adaptations for the BBC. He reprised Admiral Piett in the 2012 animated short “Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out” and was a regular guest at fan conventions, remaining, in Owen’s words, “one of our finest character actors.”
