Sunderland AFC has reached a definitive agreement with Paris Saint-Germain to acquire French defender Nordi Mukiele for a fee understood to be between €11 million and €12 million. Personal terms have been settled and the 27-year-old is travelling to England to complete his medical and sign a long-term contract, according to multiple French and Italian media outlets. Mukiele joined PSG from RB Leipzig in 2022 but made only 45 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions and spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, featuring 24 times. Out of manager Luis Enrique’s plans this summer, he had been training with the club’s so-called ‘loft’ group designated for players available for transfer. The move continues an aggressive recruitment drive by Sunderland, which is bolstering its squad after earning promotion back to the Premier League. Mukiele, capped once by France, will add Champions League experience to manager Régis Le Bris’s back line as the Black Cats open their league campaign at home to West Ham on Saturday.
