Major U.S. retailers have begun their Labor Day promotions nearly a week early, rolling out some of the steepest technology discounts seen this year. Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy are leading the push, cutting prices across laptops, tablets, headphones and accessories to draw shoppers searching for back-to-school and holiday-weekend bargains. Amazon’s sale features several record-low offers on Apple hardware, including the 24-inch iMac with the latest M4 chip and 256 GB of storage, as well as an 11-inch iPad Air that has dropped back to its previous floor price. The company also slashed the price of a newly released HP 17-inch laptop—equipped with an Intel Ultra 7 processor, 64 GB of DDR5 memory and 2 TB of solid-state storage—by almost $3,000 to about $1,199, a 70 percent reduction. Competing chains are matching the aggressive stance. Walmart is promoting exclusive markdowns such as Sony’s WH-1000XM5 noise-cancelling headphones and a Samsung Odyssey 28-inch 4K gaming monitor reduced to $299, while Best Buy has cut the INIU 10,000 mAh portable power bank to $18, the lowest price tracked for the device. With discounts spanning premium PCs to entry-level accessories, the early campaigns suggest retailers are vying for discretionary dollars well ahead of the long weekend.
