The Professional Fighters League has named veteran media executive John Martin as its new chief executive officer, the mixed-martial-arts promotion announced on Thursday. Martin, who once ran Turner Broadcasting and served as chief financial officer of Time Warner, takes over from Peter Murray, who will shift to an international role reporting to the new CEO. Martin brings three decades of media-industry experience, including oversight of networks such as CNN, TNT and TBS, and was listed in Variety’s 500 most influential business leaders in 2017. A lifelong martial-arts enthusiast and black belt in karate, he said his immediate focus will be expanding PFL’s media rights, ticket sales and sponsorship revenue as the league positions itself as the main alternative to UFC.
