Rogers Communications of Canada has launched Rogers Satellite, a direct-to-cell satellite messaging service powered by SpaceX's Starlink network. The service, currently in beta, offers coverage spanning over 5.4 million square kilometers, which is more than 2.5 times the area covered by any other Canadian wireless provider. Rogers Satellite supports messaging on compatible phones across Canada, including those on rival carriers via eSIM technology. This launch marks the first wireless provider in Canada to offer next-generation satellite-to-mobile text messaging technology. Meanwhile, Cogeco has initiated its wireless service rollout in Quebec and Ontario, with plans to expand to 12 markets in the coming weeks.
