South Carolina Confirms First Measles Case Since September 2024 Amid Rising Outbreaks in Alberta, British Columbia, New Zealand, and Latin America

The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed the state’s first measles case of 2025, involving a resident in the Upstate region. This marks the first known measles infection in South Carolina since September 2024. Meanwhile, measles cases are also reported internationally and in Canada. New Zealand's Wairarapa region has three confirmed cases. In Canada, Alberta has reported over 1,000 measles infections, the highest per capita in North America, with hospitals in British Columbia admitting ten patients and a total of 102 cases reported across the province's five regional health authorities as of July 8, 2025. Additionally, New Brunswick has confirmed one active contagious case. In Latin America, 3,171 cumulative measles cases have been reported. These developments indicate ongoing measles outbreaks in multiple regions globally.
