Officials are tracing contacts and urging anyone lacking two documented doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine to be immunised promptly. Utah health officials said an independent testing program detected measles RNA in wastewater collected 7 July from the Provo area. Although Utah’s clinical case count remains at nine, the finding signals at least one recent, unidentified infection and prompted fresh calls for vaccination. Additional single cases or exposure warnings were issued in Jefferson County, Kentucky, and in Galena, Illinois, while Kansas lifted its year-to-date tally to 88 infections, most tied to an earlier West Texas outbreak. North of the border, New Brunswick declared an outbreak after confirming three cases and identifying five probable infections in its south-central region. Federal data show Canada has logged 3,822 measles cases so far this year, with officials blaming both vaccine hesitancy and pandemic-related disruptions in routine immunisation. Health authorities across the affected jurisdictions are advising residents to verify MMR records, watch for symptoms such as rash and fever, and isolate immediately if illness develops.
