He contrasted his approach with that of former president Joe Biden, whom he accused of inaction. Trump’s remarks follow a series of steps by Mexico that Washington has highlighted, including the extradition earlier this week of 26 alleged cartel figures to U.S. custody. U.S. government statistics show 6,070 apprehensions at the southwest border in June, the lowest monthly total on record, with a one-day low of 137 on 28 June. The administration also confirmed that a recent U.S. drone flight over Mexican territory was conducted at Mexico’s request for a criminal investigation. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum responded in a video statement, saying “in Mexico, the people rule,” reaffirming the country’s sovereignty and cooperation “with respect” to both nations. Sheinbaum did not directly reference Trump but emphasized that joint security actions are undertaken by mutual agreement. Canada has not yet commented publicly on the U.S. president’s characterization.
