George Lucas making his first ever #SDCC appearance on a panel alongside Guillermo del Toro that's moderated by Queen Latifah is quite a wild thing! (the great Doug Chiang is also on the panel, but him I'd more expect alongside Lucas) https://t.co/tZ6IRQa763

Star Wars creator George Lucas will attend San Diego Comic-Con for the first time, headlining a Hall H panel on 27 July that will showcase plans for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. The museum, co-founded by Lucas and financier Mellody Hobson, is under construction in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park and is slated to open in 2026. Lucas will be joined on stage by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and long-time Lucasfilm design executive Doug Chiang. The session, moderated by actor and producer Queen Latifah, will explore the role of illustrated storytelling and give fans a first look at exhibits that will range from Norman Rockwell paintings to film props drawn from the Lucas archive. Comic-Con’s chief communications and strategy officer David Glanzer said the appearance marks a “full-circle moment,” noting that Star Wars made one of its earliest public showings at the convention nearly five decades ago. Lucas has previously delegated convention appearances to collaborators, making the 2025 visit a milestone for the event’s 55-year history.
