San Bernardo Mayor Christopher White said on Thursday that he and his family received a written death threat hours after the municipality carried out a series of police-backed operations against organized crime and illegal street vendors. The letter, left anonymously at the entrance of city hall, read in part, “Alcalde, te vamos a matar a ti y a tu familia.” White told local media this is the fourth threat he has faced since taking office, but the first to arrive in writing. He linked the intimidation to the city’s stepped-up efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the southern Santiago suburb. The municipality has filed a formal criminal complaint and will pursue additional legal action against those responsible. “No nos van a intimidar,” White said, vowing to intensify security measures and continue the crackdown despite the warning.
