China’s Ministry of Commerce said Friday that Washington has begun lifting a series of export and trade restrictions on Chinese goods and technology, and that both governments are "stepping up efforts" to put into practice the so-called London framework, a pact negotiated earlier this year to ease bilateral trade tensions. Beijing said U.S. officials have informed it of approvals allowing the resumption of exports to China of electronic design-automation software, ethane and aircraft engines. The ministry called the agreement "hard-won," urged the United States to "further correct wrong practices," and stressed that "dialogue and cooperation are the right path" while coercion would be counter-productive. The remarks signal tentative progress in the countries’ trade relationship after years of escalating tariffs and technology controls. China added that it is reviewing applications for licences covering controlled items and expects additional steps as part of the framework’s implementation.
