China's automobile market experienced steady growth in July 2025, with car production rising 13.3% year-on-year to 2.591 million units and vehicle sales increasing 14.7% to 2.593 million units, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Commercial vehicle output also grew by 16.3% to 298,000 units. New-energy vehicles (NEVs) were a major driver of growth, with exports hitting 575,000 units in July, up 22.6% year-on-year. Overseas shipments of NEVs surged 84.6% to 1.31 million vehicles in the first seven months, accounting for over one-third of total exports. Dongfeng Motor reported a 35.5% increase in NEV sales to 249,571 units in the first seven months, despite an 8.9% decline in overall car sales. Globally, electric vehicle (EV) sales grew 21% in July, with China’s growth slowing while Europe surged by 48%. In the first seven months of 2025, global EV sales increased 27%, with China leading at 6.5 million units sold, a 29% rise year-on-year. BYD dominated Indonesia's EV market with 16,427 units sold in the first seven months. In the U.S., new EV registrations rose 4.6% in June, although EV market share slightly declined to 8.6% of the light vehicle market. Meanwhile, China's civil aviation sector reached record highs in July, with transport turnover up 8.6% and passenger traffic increasing 3.9%. Hybrid vehicle exports from China more than tripled in the first half of 2025 compared to a year earlier, outpacing the 40% increase in battery-electric vehicle exports.
