Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng Motors set a new monthly delivery record in July 2025, delivering 36,717 vehicles, marking a 229% year-on-year increase and its ninth consecutive month exceeding 30,000 units. For the first seven months of 2025, Xpeng's deliveries surged 270% to 233,906 vehicles. In contrast, BYD's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales in July remained roughly flat compared to the previous year, with 344,296 units sold, including 177,887 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 163,143 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). BYD's production declined slightly to 317,892 NEVs in July, marking its first production drop in 17 months and raising concerns about meeting its ambitious annual sales target of 5.5 million vehicles. Meanwhile, Li Auto delivered 30,731 vehicles in July, experiencing a 40% year-on-year decline and a 15% month-on-month decrease, despite launching the Li i8 SUV. NIO delivered 21,017 vehicles in July, up 25.2% year-to-date with cumulative deliveries reaching 806,731 units as of July 31, 2025, but faced a 38% year-on-year drop in its own brand sales for the month. Other Chinese EV makers such as Geely, Leapmotor, and Xiaomi reported strong year-on-year growth, while brands like GAC Aion, IM Motors, and Li Auto showed declines. Overall, July was a challenging month for some established players amid a mixed performance across the Chinese NEV market.
