Chinese device maker GPD has formally introduced the Win 5, a handheld gaming PC built around AMD’s new Strix Halo architecture. The unit runs a Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor that combines 16 Zen 5 CPU cores with a Radeon 8060S integrated GPU offering 40 compute units—specifications that GPD says let the device outpace Nvidia’s mobile RTX 4060 in synthetic tests. The company is targeting a sub-$2,000 price point, making the Win 5 the first officially launched Strix Halo-based handheld. The 7-inch system features a 120 Hz 1,920×1,080 IPS display, up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory and as much as 4 TB of NVMe storage. Power draw is listed at 55–75 W, supported by a detachable 80 Wh battery and an external 180 W adapter. The console weighs 565 g on its own and 915 g with the battery installed. GPD’s in-house benchmarks cite frame-rates of 98 fps in Forza Horizon 5, 75 fps in Baldur’s Gate 3 and 45 fps in Cyberpunk 2077 at maximum settings, while Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 holds 42 fps. Shipments are not expected before September, but the announcement intensifies competition in the rapidly crowding high-performance handheld market. On the same day, rivals OneXPlayer touted a thin Super X model claiming graphics power beyond Sony’s PlayStation 5, and a modder demonstrated a custom handheld fitted with an Nvidia RTX 4090 laptop GPU. The string of reveals underscores how manufacturers and enthusiasts alike are racing to shrink desktop-class hardware into portable form factors.
