The Kremlin said President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on 25 August, focusing on Iran’s nuclear programme, the fallout from Putin’s recent summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Anchorage and developments in Ukraine and the South Caucasus. Four days later, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin will travel to China in early September for a round of talks that will include bilateral meetings with Pezeshkian as well as with India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari and Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić. The Russian leader is expected to discuss regional security and economic cooperation, with the nuclear issue high on the agenda of his meeting with the Iranian president. Peskov added that Putin plans a separate visit to India in December, underscoring Moscow’s push to deepen relations with Asian partners amid continued tensions with the West.
