Mayorkas Confirms Ongoing Chinese Hack Attacks on U.S. Telecommunications Providers; DHS Aware of Vulnerabilities and Issued Best Practices

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed that Chinese hackers have infiltrated American telecommunications providers, stating that the attacks are ongoing. In a recent interview, Mayorkas emphasized the seriousness of the situation, referring to it as a 'very, very serious matter.' He noted that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is aware of the countries primarily exploiting vulnerabilities in U.S. telecom networks, including China, Russia, Iran, and Israel. The Department of Defense has indicated that all U.S. telecom companies are susceptible to such attacks. In response to the hacking incidents, DHS has issued a memo outlining best practices for mobile communication security.
