India said Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Japan from 29–30 August to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Tokyo separately confirmed the visit, noting that the two leaders will hold talks aimed at deepening political and economic cooperation. Following the stop in Japan, Modi will go to China from 31 August to 1 September to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. The back-to-back trips will mark Modi’s first overseas engagement since his re-election and are expected to focus on regional security and trade, according to official statements.
