Tesla Inc. has introduced a Long Range rear-wheel-drive version of the Model 3 in China, listing the vehicle at 269,500 yuan (about US$37,500) on its local ordering sites and social-media channels. The trim is rated at 830 kilometres under China’s CLTC testing cycle, the highest range yet offered for the Model 3 in the market. The car’s 830-kilometre certification translates to roughly 363 miles on the stricter U.S. EPA methodology, and Tesla says the sedan can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in September, and buyers are being offered five-year interest-free financing along with an 8,000-yuan rebate. The move extends Tesla’s recent upgrades to its locally built Model 3 all-wheel-drive and Performance versions, which were also raised to an 830-kilometre rating earlier this year. By enhancing driving range while holding the entry price below 270,000 yuan, the automaker aims to defend its share in the world’s largest electric-vehicle market amid intensifying competition from domestic manufacturers.
