Global sales of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles (EVs and PHEVs) rose by 24% in June 2025 compared to the previous year, driven primarily by strong demand in China and Europe, according to market research firm Rho Motion. In the first half of 2025, global EV sales reached 9.1 million units, marking a 28% increase year-over-year. China led growth with a 32% rise to 5.5 million vehicles sold, followed by Europe with a 26% increase to 2 million units. In contrast, the North American market showed slower growth, with the United States up only 6% and Canada experiencing a 23% decline in EV sales. Meanwhile, advancements in autonomous vehicle technology were highlighted by Pony AI receiving a permit to operate fully driverless commercial robotaxi services in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, marking a significant step in the deployment of autonomous mobility solutions in China. Additionally, Chinese EV manufacturer Nio announced that its Firefly model has reached a milestone of 10,000 deliveries, with European deliveries expected to commence soon.
