The Gobernación de Cundinamarca unveiled the first full-scale prototype wagon of the Regiotram de Occidente on July 16, 2025. The prototype and its structural design were presented as part of the ongoing project, which has reached 30% completion. The Regiotram de Occidente is expected to serve four municipalities and four localities in Bogotá, aiming to improve transportation in the Sabana de Bogotá region. Officials highlighted that the Regiotram could begin operations before the Bogotá Metro and discussed plans for integration with Bogotá's SITP public transport system. The project has raised cultural heritage considerations due to its route. Separately, in Antioquia, regional developments include the expansion of the Túnel de Oriente with a 1.3 trillion Colombian peso investment to reduce travel time and congestion between Medellín and the airport. Additionally, the Siata system now provides real-time weather updates for Medellín and its metropolitan area. Tourism highlights include the La Viejita waterfall in San Carlos, Antioquia, known for its clear waters and extreme sports opportunities, while Antioquia continues to be recognized for its cultural and religious heritage.
