María Alejandra Díaz, a Venezuelan lawyer and dissident of the chavista movement, has left the Colombian embassy in Caracas after more than seven months under diplomatic protection and has arrived safely in Bogotá, Colombia. Colombian President Gustavo Petro confirmed her arrival and called for the release of Colombians detained in Venezuela. Díaz had reportedly violated Venezuelan law by not publishing detailed results of Nicolás Maduro's contested election victory. Meanwhile, President Petro accused the FARC and ELN guerrilla groups of operating in Venezuela, trafficking tens of tons of cocaine, and bribing public officials. The United States exposed a narcotics network involving a former Costa Rican minister. Venezuelan authorities discovered an illegal cache of Venezuelan weapons and military clothing linked to FARC dissidents and found a vessel used by drug trafficking groups. Venezuelan journalist Víctor Ugas has completed one year in detention in Tocorón prison, with his judicial process restarting after the resignation of the presiding judge. Human rights groups and opposition parties have called for the release of journalists Ugas and Gabriel González, the latter detained for 14 months reportedly for reporting the truth. Vice President Francia Márquez commented on the Petro administration, noting bureaucratic challenges during its three years in office.
