Indian equity markets rebounded sharply on Friday, with the Sensex closing up 769 points at 81,721 and the Nifty gaining 243 points to finish at 24,853. The rally was primarily driven by strong performances in IT and FMCG stocks, including notable gains from ITC, Eternal, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, and HCL Tech. Honasa Consumer shares surged 12% following improved revenue outlook in its Q4 results, while Sun Pharma declined 3% on weaker earnings, with US generics cited as a drag. BSE Ltd. shares experienced a technical adjustment, falling over 66% as the stock traded ex-bonus following a 2:1 bonus issue. The pre-bonus price of Rs 6,996 was adjusted to Rs 2,332, and the stock traded at Rs 2,449 on the ex-date, reflecting a 5% gain on the adjusted basis. BSE also declared an 800% dividend for shareholders. Despite the apparent drop, BSE shares have risen nearly 240% from their 52-week low after the adjustment. JSW Steel reported a 16% year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,503 crore for the fourth quarter, while revenue declined 3% to Rs 44,819 crore. Operating EBITDA for the quarter stood at Rs 6,378 crore, up 14.3% quarter-on-quarter, with a margin increasing from 13.5% to 14.2%. The company announced a 280% dividend for shareholders. Other companies announcing dividends included SAIL, Tata, Mahindra group companies, HDFC AMC, and several IT firms, with record dates fixed for payouts. BEML reported a 12% increase in net profit to Rs 287.5 crore and a 9.1% rise in revenue to Rs 1,652.5 crore for Q4, with a margin at 25.57%. Ashok Leyland posted a 38.4% year-on-year increase in profit after tax to Rs 1,246 crore, a 5.7% rise in revenue to Rs 11,906.7 crore, and a margin at 15%. The company also announced a bonus share issue. Dar Credit & Capital's IPO closed with a 17x subscription and a grey market premium at 26%. The market recovery was attributed to easing US treasury yields and the passage of a US tax cut bill, which alleviated some pressure from foreign portfolio outflows earlier in the week. Sequential earnings recovery in the March quarter contributed to the market's gains.
