Accused California Father Joins Police Search for Missing Infant’s Remains

A California man charged with murdering his seven-month-old son spent Sunday helping investigators comb a stretch of scrubland off State Route 60 in Moreno Valley for the infant’s remains, authorities said. Jake Haro, 32, wore a jail jumpsuit as he guided deputies from the San Bernardino and Riverside County sheriff’s departments, who deployed cadaver dogs during the day-long operation. The search concluded Sunday night without finding the child, Emmanuel Haro, who has been missing since mid-August and is presumed dead. Jake Haro and his wife, Rebecca Haro, 41, were arrested last week on suspicion of murder after detectives concluded the couple’s initial claim that the baby was kidnapped outside a Yucaipa sporting-goods store on Aug. 14 was fabricated. Investigators cite inconsistencies in the parents’ statements and surveillance footage as evidence. Both remain in custody while the investigation continues and authorities plan additional searches to locate Emmanuel’s body.
