Jennifer Aniston said in a newly published Vanity Fair cover interview that she and her fellow “Friends” cast members felt they had been mourning Matthew Perry “for a long time” before his death in October 2023. The 56-year-old actress recalled repeated but ultimately unsuccessful attempts to help Perry combat decades-long substance-abuse problems, adding that part of her is now relieved he is no longer in pain. Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the NBC sitcom, died at age 54 from the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning listed as a contributing factor. Aniston said the group “did everything we could when we could,” describing his struggle with addiction as a constant worry during and after the show’s 10-season run. The interview renews attention on the investigation into how the actor obtained the drug. Federal prosecutors have secured guilty pleas from four defendants, including physician Salvador Plasencia, while alleged supplier Jasveen Sangha—dubbed “the Ketamine Queen”—faces trial on 23 September in Los Angeles.
