Jane’s Addiction descended into open legal warfare on 16 July when guitarist Dave Navarro, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins sued frontman Perry Farrell in Los Angeles County Superior Court, seeking more than $10 million in damages. Their complaint accuses Farrell of assault, battery, breach of contract and other claims stemming from a 13 September 2024 concert in Boston where the singer allegedly punched Navarro onstage, leading to the cancellation of the tour’s final 15 shows and halting work on a new album. Within hours, Farrell, joined by his wife Etty Lau Farrell and the band’s touring company, filed a separate suit against the three musicians. He contends the others waged a years-long campaign of bullying, played at excessive volume to sabotage his performances, and physically assaulted him and his wife backstage. Farrell says he was excluded from the decision to cancel the tour and that the bandmates’ public statements about his mental health damaged his reputation. Both complaints cite assault, battery, emotional distress and breach-of-contract claims, although each side blames the other for the confrontation at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion and for losses tied to the scrapped reunion tour and abandoned record. No court dates have been set, but the duelling filings leave one of alternative rock’s defining groups effectively stalled while the members battle in civil court.
