Boston police said a coordinated enforcement sweep on Monday led to the arrest of 13 people suspected of human-trafficking-related offences in the city’s Mass and Cass corridor, an area long troubled by drug use and street crime. The operation, centred on the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard in Roxbury’s Newmarket Square, was carried out by the Boston Police Department’s Human Trafficking Unit alongside the FBI Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force and the Massachusetts State Police High-Risk Victims Unit. Investigators conducted targeted surveillance of Allerton and Pompeii streets and surrounding blocks, aiming to curb sexual exploitation and related criminal activity. The suspects, aged 26 to 49, face charges ranging from sexual conduct for a fee to possession of a Class B substance, with several also wanted on outstanding warrants and one additionally charged with resisting arrest. All 13 are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. City and state officials have stepped up enforcement around Mass and Cass as residents and businesses press for a response to chronic public-safety and health concerns. Police said the latest sweep is intended not only to disrupt trafficking networks but also to reduce property crime and improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood.
