New York City police say a dispute inside the Taste of the City Lounge in Crown Heights erupted in gunfire shortly after 3:30 a.m. Sunday, leaving three men dead and nine other patrons wounded. Officers responding to multiple 911 calls found the victims inside the Franklin Avenue nightclub, which was packed near closing time. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told reporters that up to four gunmen fired at least 42 rounds from 9 mm and .45-caliber weapons. The men killed were 19, 27 and 35 years old. The wounded—six men and three women ranging from their 20s to early 60s—were taken to area hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Investigators recovered one firearm near Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway and are reviewing surveillance footage but had made no arrests by late Sunday. Tisch said the shooting “appears to be gang-related,” noting that roughly 60% of shootings in the city have similar links. Mayor Eric Adams appealed for witnesses to come forward, warning that the attack could spark retaliatory violence even as New York records its lowest year-to-date shooting totals on record. City crisis-management teams have been deployed to the neighborhood while the investigation continues.
