Chicago police responded to a series of shootings on Saturday night that left a 31-year-old woman dead and at least seven other people wounded. Investigators said Gabriela Ochoa was fatally shot in the chest around 8:40 p.m. in the Bridgeport neighborhood when a group in a dark-colored sedan tried to rob her. Earlier in the west suburbs, an armed suspect was killed during an exchange of gunfire with officers. Separate attacks later in the evening wounded three people on the South Side and four men near the United Center on the Near West Side; two of those victims were listed in serious condition. No arrests had been announced as of Sunday morning. Minneapolis authorities reported four unrelated shootings between late Saturday and early Sunday. Police said a man was shot while sitting in a car downtown at 9:18 p.m., another man was wounded an hour later near Nicollet Avenue, a woman suffered serious injuries when gunfire struck her home just after midnight, and a man was hit by stray shots at 1:32 a.m. on Lake Street. All four victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries except for the woman, whose condition was described as serious. Investigators have not linked the incidents and have made no arrests.
