A 20-year-old California mother, Maya Hernandez, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter following the death of her 1-year-old son who was left inside a hot car while she underwent lip filler injections at a medical spa. The incident occurred on June 29 during a day when outdoor temperatures reached 101 degrees Fahrenheit. Hernandez left her two young sons, aged 1 and 2, strapped in their car seats in a vehicle where the internal temperature reportedly reached 107 degrees, with experts estimating it could have climbed as high as 143 degrees. Police stated that Hernandez intentionally left the children in the car. After the child's death, Hernandez reportedly told authorities, "It's not like I left them in there for them to just f--ing die." The case has drawn attention to the dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles during extreme heat.
