A Connecticut Superior Court jury on Wednesday acquitted Raul Valle of murder, manslaughter and assault charges stemming from the 2022 stabbing death of 17-year-old Fairfield College Preparatory School lacrosse player Jimmy McGrath. The panel delivered a partial verdict after several days of deliberations, finding Valle not guilty on all counts tied directly to McGrath’s death and wounding, but failing to reach agreement on three separate assault allegations involving other teenagers. McGrath was fatally stabbed during a late-night house party in Shelton on 14 May 2022 that devolved into a brawl involving dozens of youths. Valle, then 16 and a student at nearby St. Joseph High School, was later charged with one count of first-degree murder and multiple counts of first-degree assault. He remained free on a $2 million bond while awaiting trial. Judge instructions call for prosecutors to decide whether to retry the unresolved assault counts or drop them. Valle, now 20, will remain subject to those potential proceedings but faces no further liability in McGrath’s death following Wednesday’s acquittal.
