New York City police arrested Iman Abdul, 27, on 9 August after she urged her roughly 25,000 Instagram followers to “attack” Leon M. Goldstein High School for the Sciences in Brooklyn because Jewish students attend the school. Investigators say Abdul posted a Google Maps screenshot of the campus along with the caption, “If anyone needs a public school in NYC to attack for whatever reason … Lexus-driving Israhell loving Zionists all attend here.” Abdul was charged with making a terroristic threat, acting in a manner injurious to a child, aggravated harassment and making a threat of mass harm. The NYPD’s intelligence unit opened the probe soon after the post circulated, and officers took Abdul into custody at her Brooklyn residence. Abdul previously worked as a youth organizer for Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during the 2018 Democratic primary and served as a paid canvasser for New York State Senator Julia Salazar. Neither lawmaker is alleged to have any connection to the threat. Jewish advocacy groups said the social-media call underscored rising antisemitism in city schools and urged prosecutors to pursue the case vigorously. Leon M. Goldstein High School, a secular public institution with about 1,000 students, remained open Friday under heightened security while officials briefed parents and staff.
