Massachusetts investigators discovered human remains on Tuesday at the Rehoboth residence of 22-year-old Gregory Groom, the boyfriend of missing 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said. The remains are “consistent” with Monteiro, who was about 11 weeks pregnant when she disappeared, although a formal autopsy is pending to confirm the identification. Groom had been arrested earlier in the day on charges of aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, domestic assault and battery, and intimidation of a witness stemming from an incident on 6 Aug. Monteiro was last seen the following evening, 7 Aug., at Groom’s County Street address, according to police and her family. Quinn said Groom will now be charged with murder in addition to the existing counts. He is being held without bail and is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday in Taunton District Court. Authorities continued to search the property overnight and have not disclosed additional evidence. The investigation remains active, with state and local police urging anyone with information to come forward.
