A Tampa man has been charged with boating under the influence (BUI) manslaughter in connection with a deadly boat crash that occurred near the Howard Frankland Bridge on July 3, 2024. The incident resulted in the death of a 51-year-old man who was found floating and unresponsive in the water off the shore of Sand Key by family members. First responders transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim's body was recovered more than an hour after the accident. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) announced the charges approximately one year after the crash. Additionally, a Lowell man was charged with boating drunk after crashing a vessel on the shoreline of Lake Mascuppic, though this incident is separate from the Tampa case.
