A 32-year-old Utah man was arrested over the weekend after a utility-terrain vehicle he was driving overturned in Duck Creek Village, Kane County, killing a 7-year-old girl who was riding in the back seat, according to a probable-cause affidavit released Monday. Deputies said Armando Garcia Becerra lost control of the UTV at about 9 p.m. Saturday, July 5. The child’s parents drove the unconscious girl to the nearby Mammoth Creek Fire Station, where she was pronounced dead from severe head injuries. At the crash site, officers detected alcohol on Becerra’s breath. He admitted to drinking five or six 16-ounce beers earlier in the evening and failed a field-sobriety test. Toxicology results are pending. Becerra was booked into the Kane County Jail on suspicion of second-degree felony automobile homicide and multiple misdemeanor counts, including three charges of driving under the influence with a passenger under 16, as well as reckless driving and negligent operation resulting in injury. The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
