At least three sheriff’s deputies were wounded Wednesday evening when a gunman opened fire as officers attempted to serve warrants at a home in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, according to local media and elected officials. The shooting unfolded near the intersection of Pittsville Road and Homestead Road in the Gretna area, roughly 30 miles north of the North Carolina border. The suspect remained barricaded inside the residence late Wednesday, while state, local and federal agencies, including Virginia State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, surrounded the property. U.S. Representative John McGuire, whose district covers the county, said the deputies’ injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. Authorities have not released the identities of the officers or the suspect, and a motive has yet to be disclosed. Residents were asked to avoid the area as negotiators sought a peaceful resolution. The Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office said further details will be provided once the scene is secure and the investigation advances.
