Paranormal investigator Dan Rivera, 54, died on 13 July while leading the “Devils on the Run” national tour that showcases the allegedly haunted Annabelle doll. He was found unresponsive in a Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, hotel shortly after the close of the tour’s sold-out three-day stop in the historic Civil War town. Emergency dispatch logs indicate first responders were called for “CPR in progress” at the hotel. The Adams County coroner has listed the cause of death as pending, and Pennsylvania State Police said no signs of foul play were observed. An autopsy is under way. Rivera, a Bridgeport, Connecticut, native and U.S. Army veteran, served as lead investigator for the New England Society for Psychic Research, the organisation founded by demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. As a principal handler of the original Raggedy Ann doll that inspired “The Conjuring” film franchise, he drew more than 1,000 ticket-holders to the Gettysburg stop. NESPR said it will proceed with previously scheduled events, including an appearance at the Maine Paranormal & Horror Convention on 6–7 September followed by dates in Illinois and Kentucky. “We believe Dan would have wanted the work to continue,” the group said, while filmmaker James Wan, who directed “The Conjuring,” called Rivera’s death “heart-breaking.”
