Denmark has pledged to provide the Ukrainian armed forces with European-made satellite communication services through the European Defence Agency, the Danish Ministry of Defence said on 14 July. The package, Denmark’s first space-based contribution to Kyiv, includes secure satellite links and receiver terminals designed to strengthen command-and-control, logistics coordination and real-time situational awareness on the battlefield. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen called the donation a response to a specific Ukrainian request and said space capabilities are becoming “increasingly important for defence policy.” Copenhagen’s move follows complaints by several EU members to the International Telecommunication Union over Russian interference with European satellites and comes amid Kyiv’s efforts to diversify beyond the U.S.-supplied Starlink network. The European Defence Agency said other EU states may follow Denmark’s example, framing the initiative as part of a broader push to bolster both Ukrainian resilience and Europe’s strategic autonomy in space-based technologies.
