Ukraine has secured its first foreign-based arms production site after signing an agreement with Denmark that allows Ukrainian defence companies to manufacture weapons on Danish soil. The accord was concluded in Copenhagen on 4 July by Ukraine’s Strategic Industries Minister Herman Smetanin and Danish Industry Minister Morten Bødskov, positioning Denmark as the first country to host Ukrainian military production outside Ukraine. Danish authorities are committing about $5 million to the venture, which is expected to supply Kyiv’s forces while diversifying and shielding production from Russian missile strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Danish deal forms part of a broader push to internationalise Ukraine’s defence industry. In a related move this week, Kyiv reached a separate agreement with Swift Beat LLC, a private US firm backed by former Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, to co-produce long-range missiles and interceptor drones. The company is expected to deliver hundreds of thousands of drones in 2025, with plans to expand output the following year. Officials in Kyiv say the twin partnerships will strengthen supply chains and accelerate the rollout of advanced systems as Ukraine seeks to offset a temporary pause in some US government weapons shipments and repel continuing Russian attacks. "We are scaling up joint arms production with our partners to protect our people and temper Russia’s appetite for killing," Zelenskyy said in a televised address.
