President Donald Trump said on Aug. 26 that Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell "gets out quickly, fortunately." Trump did not elaborate on whether he was referring to Powell’s current term, which is scheduled to end in 2026, or to any immediate departure from the central bank. The White House and the Federal Reserve have not issued statements clarifying the comment. Powell, who has led the Fed since 2018, has faced periodic criticism from Trump over monetary policy but has so far served uninterrupted through two terms.
