House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer said former President Bill Clinton is a “prime suspect” in Congress’s renewed investigation into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, adding bipartisan momentum to a long-running inquiry that has spanned several administrations. Comer told Newsmax on Monday that the panel has issued a subpoena ordering Clinton to sit for a deposition on 14 Oct. 2025. The subpoena was approved on 23 July by voice vote after Democrats joined Republicans in seeking testimony from Clinton and nine other current or former officials, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former attorneys general Merrick Garland, William Barr and Eric Holder. The committee is also demanding that the Justice Department release additional records related to Epstein’s 2019 death and his network of associates. Lawmakers in both parties have argued that full disclosure is necessary following a partial document release by the department earlier this year. Comer said he has never lost a subpoena challenge and expects the former president to comply, characterizing the investigation as an effort to establish accountability for Epstein’s alleged crimes and any official failures that may have enabled them.
