House Oversight Committee Subpoenas DOJ for Epstein Case Files •A House Oversight subcommittee, led by Chair Rep. James Comer, has voted to subpoena the Department of Justice to obtain Jeffrey Epstein–related files from the Trump administration era
The Republican-led U.S. House Oversight Committee on 5 Aug. issued a series of subpoenas seeking Jeffrey Epstein–related material and testimony. The panel demanded that the Department of Justice turn over case files from the Trump administration era and summoned former officials including Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Attorney General Merrick Garland and former FBI Director James Comey for depositions. The action came hours after the Justice Department, in a filing with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, said most of the grand-jury transcripts it recently asked to unseal in the Epstein and related Ghislaine Maxwell proceedings are already part of the public record. The government told the court that it is still reviewing whether accompanying exhibits should also be released and that it will update judges Richard Berman and Paul Engelmayer by 8 Aug. House investigators say the material is needed for their review of the government’s handling of the years-long probe into Epstein, who died in custody in 2019. The committee did not set public dates for the requested depositions. The Justice Department has not yet commented on whether it will comply with the subpoena.
