In a six-page letter dated 8 July, the lawmakers accused Bondi of withholding material that could be politically damaging to Trump and demanded the full, unredacted second volume of former special counsel Jack Smith’s report on Trump’s handling of classified documents. Separately, House Declassification Task Force Chair Anna Paulina Luna said she will request public release of Epstein files that are not connected to child-sexual-abuse material. Luna argued the department has repeatedly cited classification and ongoing investigations to shield the records from disclosure. Pressure on the Justice Department intensified after Elon Musk, in a since-deleted post last month, claimed the files remain sealed because they implicate Trump. The department and the FBI said this week they found no hidden ‘client list’ and reaffirmed their 2019 conclusion that Epstein died by suicide, but indicated no further releases are planned.
