The US House Oversight Committee on Tuesday issued a subpoena demanding that the Justice Department hand over the complete, unredacted case file on the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. In separate letters, Committee Chairman James Comer also ordered former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and eight former senior law-enforcement officials to sit for depositions as the panel broadens its investigation into the government’s handling of the long-running sex-trafficking probe. The subpoena instructs the Justice Department to deliver the materials by Aug. 19. Hillary Clinton has been called to appear on Oct. 9 and Bill Clinton on Oct. 14. Other witnesses include former attorneys general Merrick Garland, William Barr, Eric Holder, Jeff Sessions, Loretta Lynch and Alberto Gonzales, along with former FBI directors James Comey and Robert Mueller. Comer’s action was triggered by an 8–2 bipartisan subcommittee vote on July 23, when three Republicans joined Democrats to compel the subpoenas. Lawmakers say they may also seek testimony from Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell once the Supreme Court rules on her appeal of a 2021 conviction and 20-year sentence. Epstein died by apparent suicide in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges. Calls for transparency over the investigation have intensified across party lines, even as President Donald Trump—whose past social ties to Epstein have drawn scrutiny—urges Republicans to end the push for additional disclosures.
