The U.S. Department of Justice has begun transmitting portions of its Jeffrey Epstein investigative files to the House Oversight Committee, according to remarks made Friday at the White House. President Donald Trump said he supports releasing the material but branded the entire matter a "Democrat hoax." He argued that the late financier’s extensive social network means many "innocent people" could be unfairly implicated, adding that Epstein "knew everybody in Palm Beach." Trump singled out former president Bill Clinton, citing reports that Clinton took 28 flights on Epstein’s private jet, and said he did not wish to "hurt" individuals such as former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers who also associated with Epstein. The president’s comments came as Republicans intensify scrutiny of the long-running investigation, while Democrats press for full disclosure of the files.
JUST IN: 🇺🇲 Trump calls Epstein files a hoax once again: "Give them everything you can give them, because it's a Democrat hoax. It's just a hoax. The whole Epstein thing is a Democrat hoax." https://t.co/gla4HuzabC
There it is. Trump doesn’t want to release the Epstein files because there are probably a lot of innocent people mentioned in the files simply by means of running in the same social circles who would be ruined over it. Still doesn’t explain teasing the file release though. https://t.co/JLcRHcNzWd
President Trump continues to claim the Epstein files are a “Democrat hoax” and doesn’t want to “bring up” that Bill Clinton went to Epstein’s island dozens of times and doesn’t want to “hurt” Larry Summers, who was best friends with Epstein. “Innocent people shouldn’t be hurt, https://t.co/NlxO7qlyYD
