President Donald Trump said the United States has completed a new trade agreement with the United Kingdom after talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the G-7 summit in Canada. The accord, described by both leaders as “done,” will slash levies on British cars and aerospace parts and phases in duty-free quotas for U.S. beef and ethanol. Trump cautioned that there is still “not a lot of wiggle room” on steel and aluminum, which remain subject to a 25 % tariff pending further discussions. Trump turned next to negotiations with the European Union, putting the likelihood of an accord at “50-50, maybe less.” He said roughly 20 issues remain unresolved and will be discussed when he meets EU officials on Sunday. Without a deal, Washington intends to apply a 30 % tariff on most European imports from 1 August, a move Brussels has said it would counter with €93 billion of retaliatory duties. Separately, the president announced that Australia will open its market to U.S. beef for the first time, calling the decision “a very big market” opportunity for American farmers.
