Lille OSC (LOSC) has secured the signing of French striker Olivier Giroud from Los Angeles FC (LAFC), marking his return to Ligue 1 after 13 years abroad. The 38-year-old, former France international and the national team's all-time top scorer with 57 goals in 137 appearances, agreed to a one-year contract with an option for an additional season. Giroud's transfer was finalized following his contract termination with LAFC, where he scored five goals in 37 appearances over the past year. He played his final match for LAFC against the Vancouver Whitecaps before departing. Giroud expressed enthusiasm about joining Lille, highlighting the club's appeal for him and his family and his desire to contribute to the team's Europa League campaign. The striker, who previously won the Ligue 1 title with Montpellier in 2012, will wear the number 9 jersey at LOSC. His return to French football follows stints at Arsenal, Chelsea, AC Milan, and LAFC. Lille views Giroud as a key reinforcement to compensate for the departures of Jonathan David and Chuba Akpom in their attacking lineup. The official announcement and presentation took place in early July 2025, with Giroud undergoing a medical examination in Paris prior to signing.
