RC Lens has completed the signing of Matthieu Udol, captain and long-time stalwart of FC Metz, the clubs confirmed on Tuesday. The 29-year-old defender agreed a contract with Lens running to 2028. Local media put the transfer fee at roughly €3.5 million, with additional performance-related bonuses that could lift the total closer to €5 million. Udol departs Metz after 19 seasons at his boyhood club, where he helped secure promotion to Ligue 1 for the upcoming campaign. Lens, who finished in the top half of Ligue 1 last season, is adding the versatile left-back to bolster Pierre Sage’s back line ahead of domestic and European commitments.
